FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

This December in Chicago, Allseating was awarded with a GOOD DESIGN™ Award in the furniture category for its new Ray chair. Awarded annually by The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design together with The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies, GOOD DESIGN recognizes the world’s most prominent designers and manufacturers for advancing new, visionary and innovative product and consumer design.

“This award is particularly exciting because it specifically celebrates inventive design solutions,” says Gary Neil, president and founder of Allseating. “By combining a simple, post-modern aesthetic with a competitive price-point, we believe that Ray creatively addresses the need for design-savvy conference and executive seating that also supports the bottom-line.”

Lee Fletcher and Terence Woodside of figforty, in collaboration with Cooler Solutions Inc, designed Ray for Allseating. It features an innovative React™ mechanism, which intuitively adjusts the tilt tension based on the weight of the user. This makes it ideal for supporting multi-users and multi-purposes.

“The React mechanism causes the seat to gently slide forward as you recline, which encourages proper posture,” Fletcher explains. “This brings the user closer to the worksurface to maximize reach and vision zones.”

The Ray chair is figforty’s first foray into seating design.

“Collaborating with figforty has been a fantastic experience for us,” says Neil. “As a company dedicated to pursuing new innovations in seating, we’re proud to support inventive and emerging design talent. That makes earning such a prestigious design award even more valuable.”
